The Berti family has been making knives for more than one hundred years, since 1895. It all began with David when he opened his first workshop in Via dell’Oche in Scarperia, and the family tradition has continued without interruption ever since: David was followed by Severino then Alvaro and now Andrea is keeping the wonderful tradition alive. Remember though, producing knives just for the sake of inheriting a tradition is not enough, it is important to have been doing it for quite some time, just about a century!

The work of a sole craftsman. Signed with his initials. Confirming his craft and its value.

Every Knife produced at Coltellerie Berti, is the product of one pair of artisan hands. Whoever begins it finishes it. This is the essence of hand crafting in the Berti family, which since 1895 has insisted on the joy of possessing a real hand-made knife in the most authentic of artisan traditions. And so to declare it convincingly every Berti knife has the artisan’s initials cut into its blade.

Blade: stainless steel.

Handle: olive wood; rough ram horn; polished ram horn; buffalo horn, polished ox horn.

Total length of the knife: 22 cm.

Additional description:

  • full tang: the blade runs through the full length of the handle and is fastened in place by three rivets. the blade has a bead blast surface and Teflon finish;
  • smooth blade: very sharp blade, not serrated, avoid cutting meat and vegetable fiber. Hand sharpened in three steps;

This allows full growth of the horns and allows to get the best horn quality without any direct or further sacrifice of animals. They only use the full tip which affords the best quality in terms of beauty and stability through time. However it should be remembered that horn is living matter, which undergoes changes through time;
  • olive handle: handles turned olive wood. It is a single block of material suitably shaped and perforated to accommodate the shank (extension of the blade) of the knife. The olive wood is characterized by the beautiful veins that range from light brown to dark brown;
  • buffalo horn handle: the horn used is always scrap from the slaughter of animals who have reached the end of their field working life, that allows the complete development of the horns with a solid tip from 20 to 50 cm, enabling Coltellerie Berti to achieve the best quality of horn without further direct animal sacrifice. They only use the full tip which affords the best quality in terms of beauty and stability through time. However it should be remembered that horn is living matter, which undergoes changes through time. The buffalo horns must be purchased in India because the quality of Indian water buffalo horn is unsurpassed;
