The Berti family has been making knives for more than one hundred years, since 1895. It all began with David when he opened his first workshop in Via dell’Oche in Scarperia, and the family tradition has continued without interruption ever since: David was followed by Severino then Alvaro and now Andrea is keeping the wonderful tradition alive. Remember though, producing knives just for the sake of inheriting a tradition is not enough, it is important to have been doing it for quite some time, just about a century!

Blade: carbon steel, not stainless.

Handle: buffalo horn.

• laser cut blade: laser-cut blade with special steel plate, with a high carbon grade, offers great cutting power. Every blade has been tempered at 1055 degrees Celsius and sub-frozen at - 80 degrees Celsius;
• buffalo horn handle: the horn used is always scrap from the slaughter of animals who have reached the end of their field working life, that allows the complete development of the horns with a solid tip from 20 to 50 cm, enabling Coltellerie Berti to achieve the best quality of horn without further direct animal sacrifice. They only use the full tip which affords the best quality in terms of beauty and stability through time. However it should be remembered that horn is living matter, which undergoes changes through time. The buffalo horns must be purchased in India because the quality of Indian water buffalo horn is unsurpassed.
